Science

At Bacton Primary School, we want children to be inquisitive, curious and enthusiastic scientists throughout their time at school and beyond. Our science curriculum encourages pupils to ask questions, investigate ideas and develop a deep understanding of the world around them. We aim to foster a sense of awe and wonder about our universe whilst developing respect for both the living and non-living world.

Science at Bacton encompasses the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills and positive attitudes. Through the study of biology, chemistry and physics, children develop secure scientific knowledge alongside the skills needed to work scientifically. They learn how scientists observe, investigate, test ideas, analyse evidence and draw conclusions.

'Working Scientifically' skills are carefully built upon throughout children’s time at school. Pupils are encouraged to question, predict, observe, investigate, evaluate and communicate their findings using precise scientific vocabulary. Through scientific discussion and practical enquiry, children become increasingly confident in explaining their thinking, justifying conclusions and making connections between scientific concepts.

We believe that science is best learnt through first-hand experiences and meaningful enquiry. Wherever possible, children are encouraged to explore their local environment, engage in practical investigations and apply their scientific understanding to real-life situations. Through this approach, we aim to develop confident, knowledgeable and curious learners who understand the importance of science in the world around them and in their future lives.
